10-Year Burn-in Warranty for 2016 SUHD TVs

Although screen burn is less of an issue in modern TVs than legacy sets, Samsung has announced that it will repair or exchange the displays in its 2016 SUHD TVs, if they suffer from the effect within 10 years of purchase. The company refers to the new warranty as ‘industry-changing.’ The warranty covers KS9800, KS9500, KS8500 and KS8000 TVs purchased from the 1st August 2016 to the 31st March 2017.

Clearly, this is a challenge to LG, which should be very nervous about offering such a warranty for its OLED sets, although screen burn should not be too much of an issue in most TV applications, because of the range of different content shown. (BR)
