YouTube HDR Now Available for Mobile

It’s been a year since YouTube added support for HDR through its apps for enabled Smart TVs — now smartphones are joining the club.

Any smartphone that can decode Google’s VP9 Profile 2 is now able to view YouTube’s HDR content through its native app. Browsers are not capable of displaying HDR content at the moment.

Google’s HDR codec is currently reserved for the very latest smartphones, such as the Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8, the LG V30 and the Sony Xperia XZ Premium.

Users can access HDR content now by updating their YouTube application.
