Xiaomi Aiming for 90 Million Smartphone Shipments in 2017

Xiaomi has another target that it wants to achieve before the year is out. Following a statement earlier this month that Xiaomi is aiming to ship 30 million smartphones in the fourth quarter, CEO Lei Jun has now revealed the firm are also aiming for 90 million total unit shipments in 2017.

With a view to achieving this goal, Xiaomi released its entry-level smartphone, the Redmi 5A, earlier this week in China, retailing at the low price of CNY599 ($91).

Xiaomi’s new ultra-affordable smartphone, the Redmi 5A, launched in China on Monday.

Xiaomi has been climbing the ranks over the course of the year, beating competitors Oppo and Vivo out to become the second-largest smartphone vendor in China. Jun stated that the company is aiming to recapture the number one position by the year 2020.
