What They Say
Digitimes reported data from Sigmaintell that forecast that the top TV brands would buy 42.60 million TV panels in Q3 of 2021, up 4.4% on Q2, but down 8% on Q3 2020.
Samsung didn’t meet its procurement plan in the first half because of tight supply so had low inventory at the end of Q2, so it’s expected to increase this quarter. TCL and HiSense will also grow in Q3 to meet strong demand in the US. Other vendors including LGE and Sony will reduce purchasing to better manage their inventory. Sets below 55″ will fall significantly, while there will be growth at 65″ and above.
What We Think
Around now should be the peak of panel purchasing in preparation for peak holiday sales in Q4. Given that prices are slightly falling, unless you really need inventory, it’s better to defer your purchasing. (BR)
