VueReal’s MicroLED Advancements Target Automotive and Transparent Electronics

VueReal has expanded its intellectual property portfolio to over 125 patents as it prepares to showcase innovative MicroLED applications for automotive interfaces, transparent displays, and specialized lighting systems.

The Waterloo-based technology firm, known for its MicroSolid Printing platform, is demonstrating how its manufacturing process enables MicroLED implementation across product categories previously considered technically unfeasible or commercially unviable.

“Display Week 2025 marks a key milestone as VueReal showcases how MicroSolid Printing is unlocking applications once thought impossible,” said Rob Selley, VueReal’s Chief Commercial Officer. “By solving challenges around scalability, yield, efficiency, and cost, we’re enabling a new era of display innovation.”

The company’s Display Week booth will feature working prototypes focused on three application categories: high-brightness lighting systems, ultra-compact microdisplays, and transparent display interfaces—all enabled by the company’s MicroLED transfer technology. For industry insiders familiar with VueReal’s MicroSolid Printing approach, the demonstrations represent a tangible progression from technical capability to product-ready implementations.

The company’s automotive demonstrations include contextual taillights that communicate hazard information to following vehicles, transparent steering wheel displays showing navigation data, and side mirror implementations combining a projection system with an ultra-bright MicroLED display.

VueReal’s 0.35-inch MicroLED microdisplay achieves what the company claims is an industry-leading one million nits of brightness—approximately 1,000 times brighter than typical smartphone displays. This performance level addresses a critical requirement for automotive displays that must remain legible in direct sunlight while consuming minimal power.

The company’s approach to commercialization centers on Reference Design Kits (RDKs) that enable partners to prototype and develop MicroLED products without traditional non-recurring engineering costs. This strategy aims to accelerate industry adoption by reducing development barriers while generating licensing revenue for VueReal. The Reference Design Kits featured at Display Week 2025 cover applications ranging from automotive lighting to transparent displays, allowing customers to build real products without the substantial upfront engineering investment typically required for MicroLED development.

Beyond the public booth demonstrations, VueReal is conducting private showings of next-generation prototypes including a 0.5-micrometer MicroLED display (described as “the world’s smallest”), 85% transparent 10-inch panels, AR glasses with dual MicroLED displays, and a solar-integrated display capable of generating power while functioning as a visual interface.

VueReal’s commercial progress comes at a critical juncture for the MicroLED market. Major consumer electronics and automotive companies have invested billions in the technology but continue to face yield and scaling challenges that have delayed mass-market implementation.

The company has not disclosed specific production timelines or named development partners for implementation of its technology in consumer products.
