The US Department of Justice has given its approval to Nokia Networks’ proposed merger with Alcatel-Lucent. Nokia has already gained approval for the deal in Serbia and Brazil, while the EU’s antitrust regulators are scheduled to make a decision by 27th July.
In April, the two companies entered into a memorandum of understanding under which Nokia offered to buy all of Alcatel-Lucent’s equity shares through a public exchange offer in France and the US, in a deal which valued Alcatel-Lucent at €15.6 billion (Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent Sign MOU). The acquisition will allow Nokia to enter the US market and also makes it one of the largest telecom players in the country.
