Upcoming Disney UHD Blu-ray Discs Won’t Support Dolby Vision

Disney appears to be backtracking on the inclusion of Dolby Vision HDR in its Ultra HD Blu-ray disc releases. The forthcoming physical releases of Solo: A Star Wars Story and Avengers: Infinity War will only be available in the HDR10 format.

Dolby Vision versions will be made available online. However, only a select few providers have been able to forge an agreement with Disney for the distribution of its movies in Ultra HD and HDR — a deal that still eludes Apple, notably.

Disney hasn’t yet confirmed the reason for the decision to stop implementing Dolby Vision in its UHD Blu-rays but several reports suggest that technical difficulties are to blame.
