UK Moves Towards On-Demand

Ben RoomeAt800 is a non-profit organisation set up by mobile operators, which aims to limit mobile broadband interference with the DTT platform (Display Monitor Vol 20 No 13). Ben Roome is its CEO.

So far, at800 engineers have made 15,000 house visits, and found just 6,000 cases of 4G disruption. This is out of 11 million households that were identified as having the possibility of interference. Cases are rarer than expected, and there has been no difference in the perception of Freeview reception since 4G services were launched at 800MHz. More disruption is caused by inappropriate or faulty signal amplification than by mobile broadband.

The 700MHz spectrum band is set to be clear by the start of 2022. Roome emphasised that steps taken now will help to simplify the experience.
