Samsung’s upcoming A3 line will use a new hybrid encapsulation technology, Korea’s UBI Research claims. Rather than the current Vitex technique, the new method will be ‘similar to the method that LG Display takes’, where the film is laminated after the resin coating process.
The A3 fab is a G6 line, due to begin operation in the first half of next year. It will be dedicated solely to flexible AMOLED production.
UBI estimates that the flexible OLED market will be worth $1.8 billion next year. Driven primarily by tablet PCs, the market will grow at a 60% CAGR to reach $17.6 billion by 2020.
