A study by US-based The Diffusion Group (TDG) has shown that authentication is not limiting the takeup of TV Everywhere services. Only 7% of users view the authentication process negatively and fewer than 1% say that it is ‘very difficult’. “Unfortunately, authentication has been demonised by industry executives as a key reason TVE use is not more widespread”, said TDG president Michael Greeson. “[P]ointing to authentication as the cause of slow TVE uptake is a red herring, distracting attention from the real culprits: poor marketing and the inconsistent availability of the newest shows.
