TSMC announced the purchase of a plant and associated facilities from panel manufacturer Innolux. The deal is valued at NTD 17.14 billion ($538 million), significantly below the rumored market price of over NTD 20 billion (around $628 million). This facility, encompassing more than 96,000 square meters, will be integrated into TSMC’s operations and production processes.
Situated in the southwest section of the Southern Taiwan Science Park, the factory complements TSMC’s existing operations located in the northwest part of the park, though the two are not adjacent. TSMC has a history of acquiring and repurposing plants in the Southern Taiwan Science Park to meet its expanding production needs.
Innolux had announced the sale of its 5.5-generation LCD panel plant in Tainan some time ago and had been anxiously looking for a buyer. The acquisition is expected to positively impact Innolux’s financials.
