The lobby area of the Georgia State University’s new Creative Media Industries Institute (CMII) is a 34′ (10.4m) wide, 3mm pixel pitch, curved, trapezoidal LED display, courtesy of NanoLumens and its Nixel Series.
The left and right ends stand at 10’ (3m) and 7’ (2.1m) tall, respectively, resulting in a gentle sloping bottom for the display. The curved wall where the display is installed is comprised completely of LED lighting, so that the wall surrounding the display can also be programmed to project various colours and intensities along with the on-screen content.
The trapezoidal shape chosen was to highlight the creative use of different media. Initially the plan was to use multiple projectors but there were concerns about the performance in high ambient light and the complication of creating content that would be split across multiple displays.
