Tianma Microelectronics has signed a co-operation agreement with Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone (ELHTZ), also known as Optics Valley of China, for a 6G LTPS LCD production line project.
Construction of the new facility is expected to begin at the end of this year, with production slated for 2016. The anticipated annual sales volume will be approximately RMB10 billion ($1.63 billion) after the production line has reached its full yield. Investment in the project will be around RMB12 billion ($1.96 billion), equally contributed by both parties. The project will consist of a 6G LTPS production line, a colour filter production line and a matching cell and module line. Initial capacity is estimated to be 30,000 sheets of LTPS TFT-LCD panels and 30,000 sheets of colour filters a month, producing small to medium sized panels and LCMs used in mid to high end smartphones and tablets.
