Taiwan Chip Makers Post Increased Sales

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) achieved a 15.4% year on year increase in sales in May to NT$70.1 billion ($2.2 billion), though this was 6.9% lower than the previous month. TSMC’s sales for the first five months of the year totaled NT$367.5 billion ($11.8 billion), 35.7% higher than the corresponding period of last year.

United Microelectronics (UMC) also recorded a YoY sales increase, rising 8.4% to NT$12.9 billion ($416.9 million), just 0.7% down sequentially. UMC’s year-to-date sales also improved, rising 15.3% to NT$63.6 billion ($2 billion).

Mediatek’s May sales rose only 1.3% MoM to NT$15.3 billion ($494.5 million), though this was 20.8% lower than May 2014.
