Stunning Philips Afterglow movie featured in National Geographic

Already an award winning production, TP Vision’s spectacular skiing movie ‘Afterglow’, which stars four world-class free-riders in ground-breaking dramatic LED lit night-skiing scenes, has been given the ultimate accolade with a special feature in legendary magazine National Geographic – on sale now!

The National Geographic article – also available on the web site –http://proof.nationalgeographic.com/2016/01/15/midnight-slalom/ – praises both the quality and originality of the Afterglow film and also celebrates the work of photographer Oskar Enander and his dramatic shots covering the making of the movie.

The film has also won two awards – for Best Cinematography and as the Best Short Movie Award – at iF3, the international Freeski Film Festival in Montreal.

Afterglow was the second of three films in the ‘Beyond the ordinary’campaign designed to use extreme sports and incredible lighting to promote the unique benefits of Ambilight technology – found only on Philips TVs – which creates a halo of light and changing colours, to precisely match the on-screen action, on the wall behind the set, providing an extended, enhanced and more immersive viewing experience.

‘Afterglow’ shows Chris Benchetler, Daron Rahlves, Pep Fujas, and Eric Hjorleifson skiing some of the most striking off-piste powder snow slopes in Alaska and British Columbia. The setting – all scenes were shot at night over a period of two months with the mountains bathed in coloured light– put the pro skiers under a lot of physical and mental strain. They could see very little and had to completely rely on their vast skiing experience and trusting their intuition.

Incredibly all of the footage was shot by the Sweetgrass Productions’ team using 4K cameras and LED lighting and not created by CGI and computers, something that required the transportation of almost five tons of equipment via helicopter and sled to the mountain peaks.

Commenting of the National Geographic feature TP Vision Global Marketing Director, Marc Harmsen said: “We always knew Afterglow was a special piece of work but we have been genuinely staggered by the scale of the positive reaction. The recognition by National Geographic is the ultimate honour and proves we have created something quite extraordinary. The film makes the perfect partner to demonstrate our unique Ambilight technology and shows how adding light and colour to on screen content can bring an experience that is simply beyond the ordinary”.
