Sprint has announced it will collaborate with LG to deliver the first mobile 5G smartphone in the US in the first half of 2019. Sprint says its customers will be among the first in the world to experience the improved speed, reliability and mobility of 5G on a handset built for the country’s first mobile 5G network when it launches in the first half of next year. Device specifications and exact timing will be announced later, the company said.
Sprint recently announced plans to launch its 5G mobile network in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix and Washington DC. Additional markets will be announced as the company continues the roll-out of its mobile 5G service.
Sprint says its first 5G-ready cell sites are capable of delivering up to ten times the capacity of current LTE systems, significantly increasing data speeds for more customers in high-traffic locations. With massive MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) at the foundation of Sprint’s Gigabit LTE and 5G service, the company claims it can keep meeting its customers’ demand for unlimited data and high-bandwidth applications, such as HD television and VR.
