Spanish Pay-TV Revenues Rise 24% in Fourth Quarter of 2016

A CNMC report reveals that in the last quarter of 2016, the Spanish pay-TV industry saw revenues hit $566 million, up 24% from the last quarter of 2015. Telefónica reportedly had the highest revenues with $470 million, which was up compared to the $384 million in took in the last quarter of 2015. Vodafone has second with revenues of $55 million, compared to $48 million in the same period in 2015.

The Spanish pay-TV market ended the year with a record 6,062,364 subscribers versus 5,535,413 one year before, which was a rise of 9.5%. Telefónica had 3,646,984 subscribers to its Movistar Plus service, and Vodafone had 1,278,793 subscribers. Movistar had 3,869,387 subscribers at the end of 2015, losing over 200,000 subscribers, and Vodafone added over 300,000 subscribers to its 2015 total of 964,299.

CNMC also reported that pay-per-view online film rentals in Spain are growing, with revenues of $1.91 million compared to $1.05 million a year earlier. The total TV advertising market in Spain amounted to $577 million in the quarter, of which $568 million corresponded to FTA TV.
