What They Say
- Universal Display reported its Q3 2020 financial results, with revenues of $117 million (up from $58 million in Q2 2020 and $98 million in Q3 2019, and a net income of $40.5 million. UDC ended the quarter with with $673 million in cash and equivalents
- Apple posted revenues of $64.7 billion for its fiscal Q4 and $274 billion for the year, up around 1% on its Q4 last year and 5.4% up on the year. It’s net income for the quarter was $12.67 billion and $57.41 billion for the year (down on the quarter, but up on the year)
- Samsung reported revenues of $58.8 billion for Q3 and operating profit of $10.88 billion. Profit was strong compared to last quarter and last year. Smartphone sales were very stong and the Display Business had revenues of $6.45 billion, with operating income of $414 million. TV panels, monitor panels and smartphone displays all contributed.
- Visionox, the China-based OLED display maker posted losses of $17.7 million for Q3 2020, down from losses of $35 million last year.
- Pixelworks saw mobile revenues rise in Q3, but overall revenue was down to $8.2 million from $9.3 million in Q2, but down from $18.1 million in Q3 last year. That meant a loss of $8.1 million from $6.6 million last time and $2.3 million last year.
What We Think
This is a good time for the winners, but over the next year there are going to be some big losers and that may mean less money to buy high tech products, with a consequent damping of sales and profits. (BR)
