Smartphones to Ship Under 1.5 Billion Units Worldwide in 2019

Digitimes Research predicts that global smartphone shipments will come in below 1.5 billion units in 2019, with Samsung, Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo remaining the top-six vendors worldwide.

The top-four are expected to see shipment volumes of over 100 million units each, while fifth-place Oppo will see its shipments decline to below 90 million and sixth-place Vivo’s will drop to under 70 million. Ninth and tenth place will go to China’s Transsion Holdings and India’s LYF respectively, with shipments of over 35 million units apiece.

Nokia, Meizu, TCL, Asus and ZTE will round out the top-fifteen smartphone vendors in 2019. From 2020, Digitimes anticipates an uptick in shipments as 5G adoption becomes more widespread and 4G feature phone ecosystems are completed. Shipments are expected to exceed 1.5 billion units in 2020 and reach 1.7 billion in 2023.
