Smartphones Rise at 7.2% CAGR to 2019

Global smartphone shipments will reach around 1.5 billion units this year and approach 2 billion units in 2019, says Taiwan’s MIC. The growth represents a 7.2% CAGR over the forecast period.

Several factors drive the worldwide smartphone industry. Apple’s iPhone continues to boost smartphone sales worldwide, but Xiaomi is also performing well. Rising orders placed in China and emerging markets, as well as positive predictions for upcoming new releases, are also helping to push the market to growth.

MIC focuses on Taiwanese vendors. Of these, the firm expects Asus to enjoy the highest growth in 2015. Apple is the largest client of Taiwanese OEMs, estimated to place orders for 220 million handsets this year, while Xiaomi will place between 6.6 million and 6.8 million. Taiwanese vendors’ share of the global smartphone market will be around 24.5% this year.
