Weak smartphone demand in Q1 has caused panel makers to lower prices to compete for orders, say players in the Taiwanese supply chain. Samsung Display is said to have lowered the cost of a 5″ AMOLED panel with HD resolution to sub-$20, winning orders from China’s Meizo and Gionee. The same panel using LCD technology now costs less than $13.
