Sky plc is taking a minority equity stake in V-Nova, a provider of video compression solutions. The value of the investment is £4.5 million ($5.7 million).
V-Nova already has a number of investors, including Eutelsat. Earlier this year, V-Nova acquired the full global patent portfolio of video imaging company Faroudja Enterprises.
Sky’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Sky Italia, began working with V-Nova in 2015, and has used its solutions for transmitting video back to Sky as well as for IPTV. Sky’s relationship with V-Nova will enable it to understand more about V-Nova’s technology and its potential relevance and application for Sky in the future.
Analyst Comment
This is good news for V-Nova as it increases the participation of major industry players in the company. The investment was provided by converting an existing loan to equity.
