An OTT platform has been launched by Sky Deutschland, which can be used to access the broadcaster’s premium content through the internet. Sky Online customers do not need a cable, satellite or IPTV subscription. The subscription takes the form of a rolling monthly contract and will be offered on a new ‘Sky Online TV Box’ STB, developed with Roku. It will also be available on the Xbox One; certain LG and Samsung connected TVs; and Android tablets and smartphones.
As part of a strategic partnership with Roku, Sky Deutschland has also developed its own streaming box which upgrades TV sets into connected TV sets. Customers will be able to access Sky Online and Sky Snap through the TV screen. In addition to the two OTT services provided by Sky, customers will also have access to apps through the Roku streaming platform.
