Simulation Might Hold Hope for VR Headsets

What Display Daily thinks: I do have some pangs of guilt about having strong opinions on Alt Reality headsets. So, maybe it is worth giving a different perspective.

I am not saying that Vrgineers and Somnium have cracked any of the general issues with VR headsets, but I wanted to put it here because the video of the opinions at a trade show is nice counter to the constant nabobbing of negativity that I put out.

But, more importantly, there may well be a case for simulation applications for VR headsets, where immersion is certainly a benefit. Do I think that it is the only way or the best way? Not necessarily, but I leave it up to you to decide how much weight you give to the counterpoints being made.

Vrgineers and Somnium Space Collaborate on New VR1 Headset

Vrgineers and Somnium Space have collaborated to develop the high-quality Somnium VR1 headset, blending Vrgineers’ expertise in military-grade headsets and Somnium Space’s insights from the consumer space. This collaboration, which started in 2017, will be unveiled at the Somnium Connect event on July 12th in Prague, a major hub for virtual reality.

Both companies will also present at the Las Vegas Flight Sim Expo from June 21-23, showcasing their latest headsets. Vrgineers will debut the XTAL 3, designed for jetfighter and helicopter pilot training, while Somnium Space will reveal the Somnium VR1 to the public for the first time.

Media and visitors can meet Marek Polcak, CEO of Vrgineers, who will discuss the military-grade technology’s transition into the VR1. Artur Sychov, founder of Somnium Space, will talk about the development and impact of the VR1, with a live immersive experience available through his avatar in the Somnium Space VR platform.
