PMA Research, expert in the large display market, is reporting the professional display sector for the second quarter of 2024 saw a strong seasonal finish with increases in volume and revenue compared to the first quarter. Year-to-date sales, however, still lag behind the first half of 2023, with volume down 6% and revenue down 10%.
The research company observed, 86-inch flat panel displays and 5,000-5,999 lumen laser-phosphor projectors reached price parity during this quarter. Flat panel displays dominate, making up about 70% of the volume sold through distribution channels, a consistent figure over the past four quarters. Despite growing sales, revenue for flat panel displays has declined year-over-year due to intense price competition driving down prices. Projector revenues fell less sharply, thanks to a shift towards higher-end products. Sales of projectors in the 10,000-14,999 lumen range saw a sharp increase, helping to stabilize overall projector revenues.
