Sharp Corp announced its fourth quarter and full year consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ended on March 31, 2018. Net sales for fourth quarter were ¥597.8 billion ($5.48 billion), up by 6.9%, compared to ¥559.3 billion ($5.13 billion) on a year over year (YoY) basis. Net sales for the fiscal year 2017 were ¥2427.27 billion ($22.36 billion), an increase of 18.4%, compared to ¥2050.63 billion ($18.80 billion) in fiscal year ended on March 31, 2017. Net profit was ¥70.22 billion ($640 million), up by 183.1%, compared to the net loss of ¥24.8 billion ($230 million) in fiscal year 2016.
Each of the Sharp business units made significant growth in sales/revenues on YoY basis. The smart homes segment recorded sales of ¥607.9 billion ($5.57 billion), an increase of 10.4% compared to ¥550.6 billion ($5.07 billion) in the last fiscal year. Smart business solutions grew from ¥317.7 billion ($2.91 billion) to ¥331.1 billion ($3.04 billion), up by 4.2% on YoY basis. IoT Electronics devices grew by 18.8% from ¥413.6 billion ($3.79 billion) to ¥491.5 billion ($4.51 billion). Advanced Display systems reported solid LCD sales and sales grew to ¥1086 billion ($9.96 billion), an increase of 29%, compared to ¥842 billion ($7.72 billion) in last fiscal year.
The company forecasts its group net profit for the current year to rise to ¥80 billion ($730 million) on sales of ¥2.89 trillion ($27 billion), up 19.1%.
