Anoto Group AB has done a deal with Samsung to develop a pen design for Samsung to produce. The firm will receive a fee for the development and a licence fee for each unit made.
What We Think
The Anoto system is based on a camera system that recognises a grid and was originally developed for digitising paper based content and called LiveScribe. We first came across it in an electronic display when Panasonic showed a 4K tablet at CES in 2013. Anoto also worked with Cima Nanotech, the company that was one of the pioneers in silver nanowire touch systems.
Adding patterns to an OLED is probably possible in between the pixels, so that no light is absorbed by the pen system and no power is used. There is no touch film needed which makes pen-support in flexible OLEDs easier. Of course, the pen has to be active. (BR)
