Millions of TV sets across the UK will appear to turn themselves off this weekend as part of a marketing campaign by Samsung, which aims to showcase the evolution of television and its role within the home. The campaign launches on Friday 25th May with a 20-second advert, which has been designed to trick viewers into thinking their devices have been turned off, leaving nothing but a blank screen.
The campaign will initially feature 221 TV spots across 18 channels reaching an estimated 49 million viewers. It has been created to advertise the Ambient Mode background setting in the company’s range of QLED TVs, which is designed to enable TV sets to either blend in with the décor of the home, or display imagery when not in use.

See my Display Daily about the The Black Hole on the Wall that I wrote last year for more on this topic. Of course, since then, LG has been showing its rollable OLED. At SID this week, I had a brief discussion about how you get a plastic substrate that can be safer than glass in the home, but still has glass-like optical properties. (BR)
