According to a report in Korea, Samsung has made the decision to adopt OLED displays for all of its tablet devices, as well as increasing the use of OLEDs in its laptops.
Currently, Samsung Display produces limited quantities of OLEDs for tablets with most of its production being for mobile phones. According to ETNews, production of OLEDs for laptops will gradually replace the current LCD production, and eventually Samsung Display will use only OLED displays for all mobile devices.
The latest tablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab S3, features a 9.7″ QXGA (2048×1536) Super AMOLED display, a quad-core Snapdragon 820 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD slot and quad-stereo speakers.

Many years ago, Barry Young, now of the OLED Association, then of DisplaySearch, said that you would know that OLEDs had arrived when they were used for portable DVD players. At the time, that was the portable media consumption device that was available (it was before the iPad). If you can make enough of them at the right price, there is no reason not to use OLEDs for this – they are thin, light and are capable of great video performance. The issue in moving to this kind of application is just about supply and, perhaps, yield on these bigger displays. (BR)
