There’s a race to be sustainable and eco-conscious that is just as important to the display industry as color gamuts and brightness. Samsung has been awarded the Product Carbon Reduction certification for eight of its 2024 TV series by TÜV Rheinland, a notable independent testing and certification body. This certification encompasses Samsung’s Neo QLED 4K and 8K, OLED, and The Frame TV series, highlighting the company’s strides in lowering carbon emissions across these product lines in comparison to their predecessors.
The certification process involved a comprehensive evaluation of the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of these TV models, from their production and transportation to their usage and eventual disposal. This evaluation adhered to international standards, including ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4, as well as TÜV Rheinland’s specific standard.
In addition to the product-specific certification, Samsung’s Visual Display Business has also achieved the industry’s first Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method certification from TÜV Rheinland. This broader certification underscores the company’s capability to accurately measure and manage the greenhouse gas emissions of its products throughout their entire life cycle.
