Recently (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 41), we noted that Samsung’s ‘development’ of a 60GHz wireless technology was surprising, given that the company has been involved with the WiGig standard for several years. Samsung’s announcement implied that the technology was developed in-house. Philip Solis, an analyst for ABI Research, has written about the topic in a blog post (http://tinyurl.com/k9cqndj).
Solis says that Samsung’s announcement is of the company producing WiGig products – it was simply worded in a way that implied a new technology. “They have not done anything that Qualcomm (Wilocity), Intel, or Nitero have not done”, he writes.
