Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have agreed to settle their differences and committed to ending any ongoing legal disputes, as well as agreeing to settle any future disagreements through dialogue.
The agreement is wide reaching and includes the long-running dispute between the two Korean companies’ display subsidiaries, Samsung Display and LG Display (LGD), over OLED technology. Disagreement between the two firms began in September 2012when Samsung filed an injunction against LGD over an alleged leak of OLED technology (Display Monitor Vol 19 No 36). LGD hit back at Samsung’s lawsuit and filed its own claim that Samsung had infringed seven of LGD’s patents relating to the design of OLED panels, driver circuitry and devices (Display Monitor Vol 19 No 39). Attempts to negotiate a settlement failed last July.
