Samsung Galaxy S10 to Feature Fingerprint-on-Display Authentication?

Samsung’s next flagship smartphone — tentatively called the “Galaxy S10” and codenamed “Beyond — will do away with iris recognition, previously seen in the S8 and S9, in favour of a fingerprint-on-display (FOD) authentication module, according to a report from Korean publication The Bell.

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 could be the last of the company’s flagship handsets to feature iris recognition.

Sources from the smartphone security and components industry have informed The Bell that no iris recognition authentication module has apparently been developed for the new handset thus far. In addition to FOD authentication, the device will also feature Face ID unlocking, the report says.

The Bell also says that the company’s forthcoming phablet, Galaxy Note 9, will stick to iris recognition, having excluded FOD technology due to technical limitations.
