Samsung Display says it will invest around KRW4 trillion ($3.6 billion) to increase production of flexible OLED displays, with the bulk of the investment expected to be spent expanding production at the company’s Asan line. This year’s expenditure is roughly in line with last year’s capital spending.
Samsung Electronics recently held a ground breaking ceremony for its new semiconductor line in Pyeongtaek, for which the company plans to spend a total of KRW15.6 trillion ($14.2 billion), the largest amount Samsung has spent on a single production line. Market observers suggest that the company is seeking to reduce its dependency on smartphone sales by investing in other areas of its business where it sees growth potential.
