Samsung Display has published more information about the flexible AMOLED display used on the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone.
The Galaxy S6 Edge uses the third iteration of Samsung’s curved displays; the first was a horizontal curve on the Galaxy Round (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 39) and the second was the single-side curved AMOLED display on last year’s Galaxy Note Edge (Samsung Brings B2B to Consumer Show). Future versions will be bendable, foldable and – eventually – rollable.
Samsung uses a polyimide (plastic) substrate on the S6 Edge, which enables the curved design. A thin film – less than 1mm – had an electronic circuit deposited on top and a luminant RGB organic device placed through evaporation. The display, which is more flexible and thinner than a human hair, can have one or both sides curved.
