Samsung Debuts First Onyx Multiplex Theatre in Shanghai

Samsung Electronics has opened its first Onyx multiplex theatre at Shanghai Arch Wanda Cinema in Shanghai, China. The theatre, which opened on September 7th, features six Samsung Onyx screens. The company says that Onyx 3D LED screens provide high brightness, 3D dimensional depth and HDR capabilities, paired with Harman’s JBL Sculpted Surround sound.

Wanda Film Group owns AMC, Odeon & UCI, Wanda and other cinema chains, which total 1,551 cinemas globally and a total of 16,000 screens, accounting for 12% of global box office earnings. Samsung and Wanda worked together previously when Samsung installed its first Cinema LED screen in China at Wanda’s Wujiaochang Theatre in Shanghai’s Yangpu District earlier this year.

The company formally unveiled the Onyx cinema screen at this year’s CinemaCon at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. A week later, CinemaNext and Cineplexx announced the signing of an agreement to bring Onyx to a cinema in Vienna, Australia.
