Samsung CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon Announces Resignation

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Oh-Hyun Kwon has announced his plan to resign as CEO and head of the company’s Device Solutions Business. He will also not stand for re-election for his position on the Board of Directors once his term comes to an end in March.

In his emotional resignation letter, Kwon spoke of his “deep sense of pride” in the company’s successes, but said that the company now needs a new leader.

64-year-old Kwon has worked for Samsung for the last 32 years, having joined the company in 1985 as a researcher at its Semiconductor Research Institute in the US.

He later became president and head of the System LSI Division and head of the company’s semiconductor business, before becoming CEO in 2012. He also went on to become CEO of Samsung Display in 2016.

Samsung is yet to name Kwon’s successor.
