Leading U.S.-based software developer Portrait Displays announced an expanded partnership with Samsung Electronics to enhance color calibration in TV displays through its CalMAN software. This enhanced auto calibration tool is expected to become available simultaneously with Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup.
Portrait Displays‘ CalMAN software is the video calibration solution used by nearly every professional video calibrator, and by most end users in broadcast, production, and post-production. It is also the leading market solution for home video enthusiasts.
Auto Calibration for 2017 Samsung QLED TVs won awards, including AVS Forum Best of CEDIA 2017.
“With the increased color volume of the Samsung 2018 QLED TVs, it is more important than ever to ensure color accuracy,” said Andrew Sivori VP of TV Product Marketing of Samsung.
“We are pleased to extend our partnership with Portrait Displays, the world leader in color accuracy, to continue providing a stronger, more vibrant picture quality experience,” Sivori said.
“Portrait Displays is honored to have been chosen by Samsung last year as its color measurement and calibration partner,” said Martin Fishman, Portrait Displays’ co-CEO. “Our technical team has worked with the experts at Samsung throughout 2017 to support calibrating the wide color spectrum of the Samsung QLED display, and we are looking forward to extending that work in 2018 to provide new levels of control for even more refined accuracy.”
The 2018 Samsung QLED TVs feature additional points of Color Management System control. Previous models offered color controls only at 100 percent color saturation. The 2018 QLED Q Color controls also offer adjustment points at 50 percent and 75 percent.
“The added controls allow CalMAN to improve accuracy throughout the color volume, not just at its edges,” said Fishman.
