A two-year patent battle between Samsung and Nvidia, in the USA, has been brought to a close. Effective immediately, all pending IP litigation has been dismissed. The settlements includes the licensing of a ‘small number’ of patents by each company to the other, but no broad cross-licensing measures.
Nvidia and Samsung first clashed in 2014, when Nvidia accused the Korean firm of using its graphics technology “for free”. Samsung counter-sued, claiming that Nvidia’s Shield tablet and chips used its own technology.
The International Trade Commission ruled in Samsung’s favour and had been due to announce whether this warranted an import ban of Nvidia products into the USA. However, as the case has been dismissed this will not take place.
