Samsung and Best Buy Sued by Consumers in Illinois

A pair of consumers went to Illinois Federal Court last week to file a lawsuit against Samsung and Best Buy.

The litigants allege that the two companies sold PDP TVs in 2012 that they knew would fail early, and that Best Buy misrepresented its “Geek Squad” warranty package.

There are more details about this case here. It seems to be a fairly technical argument about whether what Best Buy’s Geek Squad warranties supply. Best Buy said it is not a full warranty, but a protection plan, but the claimants claim that they are full warranties (which would mean that it’s legal status is codified). The issue arose because Best Buy could not repair a set bought in December 2012, that failed in October 2017. (BR)
