Sales of Micro LED chips for TVs to reach $3.4bn in 2025

What They Say

TrendForce of Taiwan forecast that the value of sales of micrLEDs for TVs could reach $3.4 billion by 2025, a CAGR of 250%. It has a new report with an analysis of suppliers’ strategies. The firm bases its forecast partly on the aggressive investments by Korean TV brands on microLED.

The firm expects LTPS to replace PCB-based passive systems for driving TVs. There are also challenges in connecting the LEDs as traditional COF drivers can’t be wrapped around the edges of panels that are to be used in modular arrays. This involves techniques including Through Glass Vias (TGV).

As we have reported many times, mass transfer and testing continue to remain challenges.

TrendForce believes that the mass transfer process in Micro LED TV manufacturing needs to reach a rate of at least 20 million UPH (units per hour) and a 99.999% yield for Micro LED TVs to be viable for wide commercial release.
