Rumour: Apple Looking at Silver Nanowires

Korea’s ET News claims that Apple is looking into silver nanowire technology for the touch panels on the (long-rumoured) 12.9″ iPad.

By exchanging an ITO-based clear film for silver nanowires, Apple intends to raise touch sensitivity and lower costs, writes the source. Apple has apparently requested samples from LG Display, Samsung Display, Japan Display and others.

In related news, The Register quotes IHS Technology’s Rhoda Alexander as saying that the larger iPad “looks to now be solid for a 2015 launch”, probably in Q3. Alexander’s sources in the supply chain have said that Apple will discontinue some Macbook Air models by the end of the year, leaving a pricing hole in the company’s product range that could be filled by the tablet.
