In honor of it’s 50th anniversary, Photonics Spectra conducted a poll of its readers. One of the questions was what technologies did the readers believe would be outdated or no longer in use a decade from now. Top of the list? High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps. This, presumably, includes the mercury and xenon lamps used by the projection industry. With the rapid penetration of laser and laser-phosphor light sources into this space, I won’t disagree with the readers. -Matthew Brennesholtz
