Rigidtech Expands PSS Capacity and Uses

Rigidtech Microelectronics is setting up a factory in China to produce patterned sapphire substrates (PSS). Volume production will begin at the end of 2015, with an initial monthly capacity of about 100,000 units – boosting the company’s total monthly capacity from Taiwan and China to 1.3 million substrates. Rigidtech has said that its PSS will be used for covers for smartphone cameras and smartwatches, beginning in Q2’15. It expects to ship 9 million substrates for smartphone cameras and 6 million for smartwatches this year.
