Projectors Struggle to Find Their Cool Factor

What Display Daily thinks: I often wonder about the ubiquitous tie-ins between TV brands and sports leagues. It is a given that live sporting events are a big driver of large area displays. So, it is written.

This is a pretty good deal for Epson, although the connection may seem to be too far out of the mainstream opportunities for projector sales. It makes you wonder if projectors aren’t really an “old” technology.

We don’t really see projectors in business meetings because, if the pandemic taught us anything, we can all attend meetings on our phones and laptops, or watch it in a boardroom on a big screen. You really don’t need projectors with flatter, bigger displays being what they are.

Dare I say it, projectors are not cool. Giving projectors a touch of the entertainment magic of Cirque du Soleil should work out well for Epson, but we’ll have to wait and see how well the partnership works.

Cirque du Soleil has announced a cool new partnership with Epson. The plan is to use Epson’s 3-chip 3LCD laser projectors to pump up the visual experience at Cirque du Soleil events across North and South America..

By weaving Epson’s projectors into their productions, Cirque du Soleil is looking to create new kinds of show experiences that are engaging and visually spectacular because that’s what pays the bills at the circus.

This partnership is a major move for both companies, blending state-of-the-art technology with world-class entertainment creativity. It’s all about pushing the limits of what live shows can be, making each performance something unforgettable.
