Powercast Corp has shown a new batteryless E Ink-based ESL that use an ‘RF to DC’ wireless power system to supply enough power to change the information displayed, so no battery is required. The tag can be updated from up to 2m away and the company said that a standard handheld or fixed UHF RFID reader can be used.
Powercast has two chips for this powerharvesting.
An evaluation kit for the labels is under development and is expected in Q4.
