Porsche has revealed more details about the forthcoming electric Macan SUV.
The interior adopts Porsche’s latest Driving Experience layout as seen in recent models like the Panamera and Cayenne. This includes a curved 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.9-inch central touchscreen running an Android-powered infotainment system. The software boots up as the driver approaches, and is compatible with Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube and other apps. Passengers can optionally add a second 10.9-inch touchscreen for video streaming without distracting the driver.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, although over 85% of Porsche owners use iPhones. When using third-party mapping, the directions can be sent to the main instrument display. Unique to the Macan EV is an augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD), the first for a Porsche. Color-coded arrows and symbols are projected 33 feet ahead on a virtual 87-inch screen to provide navigation, vehicle data and more.
The familiar Porsche steering wheel design is retained with capacitive touch buttons, while the drive mode selector shift lever moves from the center console to the right of the wheel, reflecting the shift away from traditional gears.
Haptic feedback has been added to the brake pedal to intuitively communicate recuperation and re-gen braking levels to the driver via varying pressure, allowing “one-pedal driving” capabilities.
The 800-volt battery architecture from the Taycan has been carried over, enabling 270kW fast charging from 10-80% in just 22 minutes. New bank charging tech splits the battery into two 400-volt units to charge simultaneously, maximizing charge rate flexibility. Energy recuperation while driving can recover up to 240kW under braking.
