Panasonic Plans Plastic Touch Panel Mass-Production

At the end of September, Panasonic will begin mass-production of curved touch panels (5″ – 12″) for automotive use. The company says that the panel will be a highly sensitive capacitive-touch unit.

Film sensors are integrated into a plastic cover panel, reducing the thickness of the unit. Openings in the panel, in which input switches can be mounted, can also be accommodated. The panel, which is a multi-touch product, can be operated while wearing gloves.

Transmittance is between 88% and 90%, while typical reflectance is 6%; a low-reflection version will also be available. Anti-glare and fingerprint-resistive coverings can also be added. The panel will operate in temperatures between -40° and 85°, and supports 1 million touches or more.
