A transition from DVB-T to DVB-T2 will take place in Austria beginning in autumn 2016. Komm Austria, the company’s media authority, has started a tender (running until 26th November) for DTT operation permission, which expires on 1st August 2016. The transition is expected to take three years.
A DVB-T2/HEVC trial is to take place in Berlin this autumn. It will test network parameters – including an encryption system – and manufacturers will also be able to test their products.
Anatel, the Brazilian communications regulator, has opened a tender to provide mobile broadband services in the 700MHz band. The frequency is currently used for broadcast services. Lenta, a Russian newspaper, has said that the Ministry of Communications has proposed allocating more money to develop broadcasting in the country. An additional RUB26 billion ($720 million) has been proposed, taking the total to RUB147.6 billion ($4 billion). The money will be used to aid the transition to digital broadcasting.
