OTT Revenues Rocket as SVOD Overtakes Advertising

Netflix’s continued global rollout, which has pushed local players to step up their efforts, was cited as a reason for SVOD’s growth.According to Digital TV Research, global TV and video revenues from OTT will reach $51.1 billion in 2020 – up from $26 billion this year. The USA will dominate ($19.1 billion), growing by $16.6 billion. China, taking fourth place, will jump from $40 million to $2.8 billion. SVOD will become the largest revenue source ($21.6 billion), with 249 million homes taking services by 2020 – up from a forecast 117 million at end-2015. The USA will contribute 70 million of these homes.
